New First-Year CSU Students

Welcome to Colorado State University!

On behalf of Parent and Family Programs, we would like to welcome your student and your family to CSU! You are now part of our RamFam (or Ram Family), and we couldn’t be happier to have you here. As a family member with a first-year student, this experience is likely a mixture of exciting and overwhelming. We are here to support you!

New Student Orientation

Ram Orientation supports students transition to CSU by connecting them to the campus community and support services. Our on-campus orientation for first-year students is typically a 2-day program that allows students to connect with peers, campus resources, current students, take a campus tour, and participate in group advising that will allow them to register for classes.

As a family member, we invite you to attend orientation with your student! Our office will be present during the experience to help transition you into the RamFam.

Ram Welcome

Ram Welcome allows students to build on their orientation experience and begin their transition to CSU. During Ram Welcome students explore academic programs, learn about support services on campus, and begin to build their community on campus. Ram Welcome occurs at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester and all new students are expected to participate in Ram Welcome.

Move-In

Fall Move-In

For Fall move in, each student will register for a move in arrival time slot via the CSU Housing Portal in the late summer once room assignments are completed.

  • Move-in takes place within the span of three allotted days.
  • Students can register between the hours of 8am-6pm. After 6pm the halls will have drop-in hours where students can check in as they please.
  • If students would like to move in the weekend prior to regular move in days, they may choose to participate in early move in for a daily fee (includes room and board.)
  • If students cannot arrive until after the final move in day, they do not need to register for a move in arrival slot and can check in at their residence hall’s front desk.

Spring Move-IN

For Spring move in, students will check in directly at their residence hall front desk with details sent to them via their CSU email in early January.
